Box Details

After working with wood for many years, I was initially unprepared for the stringent design and build requirements necessary to create a wood box that could meet esthetic expectations.  I”m still never completely satisfied with a new piece, but I guess that’s a good thing.

Represented here are just a few examples of construction details common to many of my boxes. Boxes are normally finished with several coats of lacquer and hand rubbed for a satin finish. Hinges are solid brass, and many have built in stops to hold the lid in an upright position.

Typical Pagoda Box style contruction of open drawer rails and supports. The full system is open to view and part of the box design.

Example of legs used on several of my keepsake box styles.

Slip-feathers are used at the box corners, both as structural and design elements.
